Meet the President of Sturdy Power Lines

Glenn N. Sturdy

The President of Sturdy Power Lines, Glenn N. Sturdy, B.Eng., is committed to providing clients from Lake Ontario to Muskoka and Guelph to Oshawa with reliable electrical services. Glenn started electrical contracting with the family business at the early age of 14, working during summers and weekends as a labourer and equipment operator through high school. His field experience has proven invaluable with respect to design considerations and contract administration.

Glenn's Profile

From 1985 to 1990, Glenn attended Lakehead University and completed a Bachelor of Engineering in the electrical field. He continued to work each summer at Sturdy Power Lines, learning practical installation of underground and overhead hydro distribution as well as sub-station construction. After graduation, Glenn worked full time for one year until fall of 1991. Most of the experience gained was in construction and maintenance, leading to some design later.

In 1991, Glenn was accepted by BC Hydro as a Field Operation Manager in training and started in Surrey, BC. After 2 years of training, he took over as the junior Field Operation Manager in the North Shore region for a period of one year.

In 1994, Glenn assumed the position of General Manager at Sturdy Power Lines, where he expanded his abilities in customer service, job design, estimating, tendering, construction, inspection and invoicing of a variety of projects including overhead & underground distribution and sub-stations. From 1998 to 2002, Glenn was in charge of a large contract with Flamborough Hydro, which saw Sturdy Power Lines perform all of their utility operations including engineering, maintenance, operations, construction, conversion and expansion of their system.

Since November of 2002, Glenn has acted as President of Sturdy Power Lines and has continued all previous job functions with the added duties of business planning and organizational growth.

Glenn is currently involved with the following organizations and positions:

  • Board of Directors for the Ontario Electric League, past Vice Chair
  • Designated contractor for the York North Chapter of the OEL
  • Sat on the Master Exam Board of the Electrical Safety Authority
  • Sat on the last three OESC code review sub committees for section 75
  • Sat on the High Voltage Master Exam sub committee
  • Active member of the IHSA (formerly EUSA) Safety Group
